Matteo Bassoli is an Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Padua, where he teaches courses on migration policy, social science methodology, social network analysis, and European multilevel governance. He co-directs the Observatory on Urban Policies (URBES), is a member of the PhD Board in Social Sciences “Interactions, Communication, Cultural Constructions,” serves on several university committees, including the Committee for Students at Risk, and chairs the Departmental Third Mission Committee.
He has over 20 years’ experience in comparative research on local governance, welfare policies, migration, and political participation, with a strong focus on Roma inclusion, grassroots organizations, and urban policy. His recent work explores homestay accommodation for refugees, the governance of Ukrainian refugee reception, and policy implementation.
His research has been published in international peer-reviewed journals such as Governance, Public Management Review, Local Government Studies, Journal of Public Policy, Administration & Society, Italian Political Science Review, and Social Policy & Administration. He has also authored and edited several books, including works on participatory budgeting, sharing-economy policies, and the history of Roma persecution in Italy.
