Online Library on Homestay Accommodation for Refugees

Urban & Social Inclusion

Hosted by the URBES Observatory, this project provides the first and most comprehensive online reference library tracking private hospitality offered by locals to refugees. It explores the rapid evolution of homestay accommodation as a contemporary volunteering practice for native-born citizens who have no prior personal connections to refugees.

Developed by Matteo Bassoli and Clément Luccioni (2023) with the support of Refugees Welcome International, this database bridges rigorous academic research with grassroots civic action.

The database can be reached here.

Methodology: The dataset is the direct product of the systematic literature review (Bassoli and Luccioni, 2023). Utilizing the PRISMA approach, our research team screened over 1,500 sources to curate a high-quality dataset classified across distinct dimensions: micro (interindividual relations), meso (institutional action), and macro (political dimensions) levels.
