Michelangelo Savino is a Full Professor of Urban Planning and Planning Techniques at the University of Padova. He graduated in Urban Planning from IUAV University of Venice in 1987 and completed a PhD in Territorial Planning in 1995.
Before joining the University of Padova in 2013, he worked at the University of Messina from 2004 to 2013. Since 2016, he has been a member of the PhD Board in Architectural and Urban Engineering at Sapienza University of Rome. He is also co-director of Archivio di Studi Urbani e Regionali, a journal focused on urban and regional studies.
His research focuses on urban and territorial planning, urban regeneration, city transformation, local governance, and the social, economic, and political processes that produce urban decline. He is particularly interested in innovative forms of urban intervention, sustainability, resilience, and contemporary urban policy.
In recent years, his critical analysis was centered particularly on the relationship between cities and universities, both from the perspective of institutional relations and, above all, the social, economic, and urban impacts that university development has on the city. With his participation in the LINUS – "LIviNg the University City" research, the housing conditions of students in the city of Padua have taken on particular relevance.
